At Robotix Institute, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore technology, regardless of their background. That belief fueled our 2024 initiative, where, in partnership with Stanbic Bank Zambia, we introduced 40 Grade 5 students at Northmead Primary School to the world of coding and robotics. This five-month program was designed to equip young minds with essential 21st-century skills, marking a significant step towards integrating modern digital education into Zambia’s public school system.
One of our proudest moments during this journey was being part of Stanbic Bank Zambia’s AI Day, where we witnessed firsthand how artificial intelligence is transforming industries. Hosted by the Digital Transformation Unit and the Data and Analytics Office, the event, themed ‘The Age of AI: Unlocking Human Potential in the New Age of Abundance,’ showcased how technology is driving innovation in financial services. But for us, the real highlight was seeing our Grade 5 pupils from Northmead Primary School—the future leaders of Zambia—engage in discussions about AI and its potential. It was a powerful moment, reinforcing why early exposure to technology is so crucial.
Through our STEAM program, these students, ranging in age from 9 to 14, received hands-on learning in robotics and programming. They worked with Tessa, our obstacle-avoidance robot, learning to assemble key components like ultrasonic sensors, motors, and driver boards. Using Tessa Blocks, our custom-built block-based coding platform, they gained an understanding of how software and hardware interact—many for the first time.
For many of these students, this was their first exposure to modern digital technology. But beyond just learning how to code, they developed problem-solving skills, creativity, and a passion for technology. Over five months, we saw them go from having little to no experience with robotics to confidently building and programming their own projects. The program provided a space for them to experiment, ask questions, and develop a mindset of innovation.
This initiative is more than just a class—it’s a step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to the skills that will define the future. It proves that when given the right tools, young minds can achieve incredible things.
This is why Robotix Institute has been nominated for the ‘Tech for Good’ award at the Tech Trends Awards—because we are committed to making tech education inclusive, accessible, and transformative.
